"Don't Cry Tonight, My Love; You Will Not Bleed Alone ..."

"You were created to love and be loved. You were meant to live life in relationship with other people, to know and be known. You need to know that your story is important and that you're part of a bigger story. You need to know that your life matters."

This quote begins the mission statement for an organization whose purpose is truly to save the world; one person at the time, by sharing a message of love, hope, and strength.
To Write Love On Her Arms, or TWLOHA, began as "an attempt to tell a story and a way to help a friend". When Jamie Tworkowski met Renee Yohe, she was nineteen. Drugs and alcohol were a constant in her life, and both scars and fresh wounds, self-inflicted, marked her forearms. Treatment centers refused to admit her; said she was too high-risk. From that moment on, Renee was held in the loving hands of Jamie and friends, and for five days, these new friends and more helped her realize her importance, her worth, and helped her find the strength to live again.
It began with a MySpace page. Renee's story was shared with the world via the Internet community, and through the telling of her story, a realization was made; that Renee's story was the story of men, women, boys and girls everywhere. Jamie realized that "these are not American issues, not white issues or 'emo' issues"; but instead, that "these are issues of humanity, problems of pain that affect millions of people around the world."
Since the creation of this MySpace page not even three years ago, TWLOHA had received and responded to eighty thousand messages from people in forty different countries.

TWLOHA has helped spread this positive message in other ways besides the Internet. One of the most recognizable signs of support for the organization is the purchase of TWLOHA merchandise; a show of support with a story of its own. In order to raise funds to help Renee, Jamie printed the TWLOHA logo on t-shirts, and through the sale of shirts he not only raised money to help Renee, but also awareness to help others. Today, people across the country proudly support the organization by wearing this clothing with pride, hope, and the desire to spread the word.

TWLOHA also speaks up at festivals, rock concerts, churches, and universities, inviting guest speakers to travel across the country and tell their stories of hope. Renee Yohr is often featured at these events to tell her own inspirational tale. Renee has also published a book, titled Purpose for the Pain, a collection of handwritten journal entries documenting her own life; her struggles, her pain, and how she overcame it all to become who she is today. The book was released in September of this year and is available for purchase now.

Based on the story of one girl and her struggle to survive, TWLOHA has blossomed and formed into an organization that has helped, saved and fulfilled the lives of people across the country and across the world. This is an organization that means something, that wants to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The members of TWLOHA understand hopelessness, loss, pain and suffering; but also understand hope, courage, love and life. And they're here to spread this message to the world.
