writing a lovesong.
by me.

there's so many things i want to say to you;
- so many lyrics left to write -
but i just can't force myself to make the rhymes.
the words don't fit the melodies,
and instead i'm stuck with phrases in cut time.
you played me like a record;
- flipped me over, spun me 'round.
and each time, i spat at you the verses you longed to hear.
but with every mark the needle left on my surface,
i faithfully sang you my song.
our song.
stop strumming at my heartstrings;
- this old body's breaking down.
your calloused fingers brush so gently
against this wooden frame ...
but when the old guitar is put away, left to sit and ponder
and reverberate with the melodies of songs once sung...
dust settles on the prints you left behind.
